Pro-Life doctors Strategize on Saving Women's Lives
The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists

The Council of Europe approved a resolution in support of a report issued by leading pro-abortion parliamentarian, Christine Mc Cafferty, the rapporteur on the Social, Health and Family Affairs Committee. The harmonized draft of the new Kenyan constitution is currently in a legislative committee awaiting action before moving to a vote before the entire parliament. There is great concern that the new constitution fails to protect the pre-born child and fails to define life as beginning at conception. Without protection for the inviolable dignity of life from conception, legalized abortion could be next. The new draft constitution has received strong criticism from religious leaders. The Kenya Episcopal Conference, representing the Catholic bishops of Kenya, issued a statement expressing their strong opposition to any such change in law, "Conscious of our divine mandate to promote the culture of life and to stand for the inviolable right of every person to life from the moment of conception to natural death, we strongly feel we cannot be party to any legislation that supports a culture of death." Canon Peter Karanja of the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) said the NCCK is ready to mobilize a campaign if necessary. "Should the harmonized draft remain as it is without defining when life begins, we shall explore legitimate options as stipulated under the Kenya Constitution Review Act, 2008 to seek amends. What is clear is that this issue needs to be taken seriously as it will definitely take centre-stage with regards to the referendum," said Karanja. the abortion-inducing drug misoprostol or cytotec. While originally used for
gastric ulcers, the drug produces uterine contractions and is increasingly
used off-label to induce abortion. Sponsored by Buhay Party
Representatives Irwin Tieng and Ma Carissa Coscolluela, House Bill 7000
seeks to penalize the sale and distribution of misoprostol. Currently, the
sale of misoprostol is extremely limited but is available from sidewalk
vendors. Pro-abortion organizations encourage the sale of the drug and
self-use by women for abortion.
Russia: Low Population Resulting from High Abortion Rate
As Russia continues to tackle a declining population, Health Minister
Tatyana Golikova has called for a reduction in abortions. Russia, which
currently faces a significantly low birth rate, also has the highest abortion
rate in the world. In 2008, there were 1.714 million births and 1.234 million
abortions. Further, Marina Tarasova, deputy head of the St. Petersburg
Research Institute for Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Russian Academy of
Sciences, stated in 2008 that high abortion rate was also causing high
infertility, as evidenced by the 5.5 million infertile couples in the nation.
Leaders continue to look for ways to encourage births and reduce
abortions.
