What is the HalfLytely® and Bisacodyl Tablets Bowel Prep Kit?
This product is a prescription medicine called a bowel preparation. It is a fast — the average
time to first bowel movement is within 1 hour of drinking solution — and effective way to clean
out your colon (intestines) before your colonoscopy test.
How does it work?
After you take this product, it goes through your intestines and causes you to have a liquid
stool (bowel movement). This cleans the body waste out of your colon so your doctor can
clearly see the inside of your intestines.
When do I take it?
The HalfLytely® and Bisacodyl Tablets Bowel Prep Kit should be used the day before your
test. We recommend starting the Biscodyl around 4 PM on the day prior to the exam, and the
liquid around or shortly after 6 PM, as described below.
How do I use the HalfLytely® and Bisacodyl Tablets Bowel Prep Kit?
This product should be used the day before your test. Your doctor will tell you when it is time
to begin. It is very important for you to FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS COMPLETELY.
Step 1: TAKE 2 TABLETS
Take one or two (depending on the kit supplied) bisacodyl delayed-release tablets with
water. We recomment take the tablets around 4 PM, unless directed otherwise. Do NOT
chew or crush the bisacodyl tablets. Do not take the bisacodyl tablets within 1 hour of taking
an antacid.
Step 2: MIX SOLUTION
Add lukewarm drinking water to top of line on bottle. Cap the bottle and shake to dissolve the powder. The mixed solution will be clear and colorless. Use within 48 hours. Do not add anything else, such as flavorings, to the solution, with the exception of the flavor packets that accompany the kit. Step 4: DRINK ALL THE SOLUTION, beginning between 6:00 and 7:00 PM
Drink 1 (8 oz) glass every 10-15 minutes (about 8 glasses). Drink each glass quickly rather
than drinking small amounts continuously. A watery bowel movement should begin in
approximately 1 hour. Be sure to drink ALL the solution. Drink a glassful, about 8 oz,
every 10-15 minutes, until you feel full, then stop and wait for the full feeding to subside.
Resume drinking until you feel full, and repeat this process until the entire half gallon is
consumed. Don’t force it, you have until midnight to finish the solution. Drinking the
entire amount is important in getting a satisfactory bowel prep. Remember: if you feel
nauseous or bloated, pause until that sensation subsides, then resume the prep.
You will still have loose bowel movements for about 1 to 2 hours after you finish drinking the solution. REMEMBER: DO NOT eat solid food or drink milk on the day of the prep (drink clear liquids
only). Drink plenty of water and clear fluids however, to maintain a good state of hydration. If

sure to ask your doctor.
REMENBER: DO NOT eat or drink after midnight except as directed for meds with sip of
water on exam day.
What facts about myself should I tell my doctor?
If you have severe ulcerative colitis, tell your doctor before using the HalfLytely® and
Bisacodyl Tablets Bowel Prep Kit. Any woman who is pregnant or who thinks she might be
should tell her doctor before using this product. This product has not been studied in pediatric
patients and pregnant women.
What else should I know about this product?
Read the information on the box that your HalfLytely® and Bisacodyl Tablets Bowel Prep Kit
comes in. You may have some abdominal bloating or distention before your bowels start to
move.
If you have severe discomfort or distention, stop drinking the solution for a while. You can also wait longer between drinking each glass of solution until the discomfort goes away. Nausea, stomach cramping, and abdominal fullness are the most common side effects. These happen in up to 50% of patients. You should not take this product if you are allergic to anything in it. You should also not use this product if your intestines are blocked or larger than normal or if you have a stomach problem called gastric retention, or an inflammation of your large intestines. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about these conditions. Any medicines you take within 1 hour of starting to drink the solution may be flushed out of your body by the solution. You should avoid drinking large amounts of water during or after taking this product or after a colonoscopy.
