PERSONAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

D. HANDLING AND STORAGE PRECAUTIONS
HANDLE WITH CARE. Keep away from materials or conditions listed below in Section E, Reactivity Data.
Do not grind or subject Benzoyl Peroxide to frictional heat or shock. Do not add peroxide to hot reaction mixtures. Do not transfer to rigid containers with tight or screw-on closures. Do not allow benzoyl peroxide to dry out, as the material will become shock and friction sensitive. Wear protective equipment and/or garments described in Section C if exposure conditions warrant. Avoid inhalation and skin and eye contact. Wash hands after handling. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse. Dispense and transfer in an area separate from storage area. Store ONLY in original containers in a cool, isolated, well ventilated area. The addition of accelerators for polymerization may result in vigorous decomposition. Store below 100°F (38°C). Do not return residues to original container. Consult NFPA 432 for storage area guidance. . Storage and handling designs should be arranged in consultation with a person experienced in these types of
E. REACTIVITY DATA
Stability: This material is thermally and chemically reactive, either of which may result in dangerous
conditions. Self Accelerating Decomposition Temperature ≅ 140°F (60°C).
Conditions to Avoid: Heat, flames, sparks, metal contamination and direct sunlight. Temperatures above the
storage temperature of 100°F (38°C) could lead to a loss of product quality and a thermal decomposition of the product that could generate hazardous and flammable chemicals.

Acute Effects of Overexposure:
Eye: May produce severe eye and mucous membrane irritation, including superficial corneal opacity, and redness
Skin: May produce moderate skin irritation, including redness, swelling, and burning sensation.
Inhalation: May be moderately irritating to the nose, throat, and mucous membranes. Tearing, salivation,
decreased respiratory rates, difficulty breathing and lethargy may occur with overexposure.
Ingestion: May produce slight muscular weakness.
SUBCHRONIC AND CHRONIC EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE:
Repeated exposure may produce allergic reactions in some individuals characterized by redness, itching, oozing,
crusting and scaling of skin and asthmatic wheezing.
OTHER HEALTH EFFECTS:
Topical application of benzoyl peroxide to mice, previously initiated by exposure to 7,12-dimethylbenz(a) anthracene, promoted both papillomas and carcinomas. Benzoyl peroxide was inactive on the skin of mice as a complete carcinogen or as a tumor initiator.
