About head lice
Having head lice is not harmful to health. Head lice are only able to live on humans. They are usually passed on by head - to head contact; brief hair contact is enough.
In contrast to popular belief, head lice are not able to fly or jump, but they do use their six legs to grip hair firmly. Head lice suck blood every two to three hours; this is what causes the irritation. When separated from their human hosts, head lice die within twenty-four hours.
NB: It is generally assumed that head lice can be picked up from textiles; however, this is not possible.
Head lice are a brown color and grow during their development from approximately 0.5mm to a size of 3 mm. Head lice are often discovered because the child experiences itchiness on the head. A child who has recently been infested with head lice may not feel any itchiness at all. Adult head lice lay between five and nine eggs a day. Their brown-colored eggs stick to the hair and are found close to the scalp because it is warm. The young lice hatch after a period of approximately seven to nine days. The empty eggs are referred to as nits and continue to stick to the hair. These white-coloured nits no longer contain any living head lice.
How can you detect head lice?
• The brownish head lice can be recognized by their crawling movement. If fewer head lice are present a more careful search should be undertaken. Head lice that are difficult to spot can be removed with a special nit comb.
• The white eggs (nits), from which the head lice have already hatched, remain stuck to the hair. This means that the nits do not work themselves loose and can only be removed by combing the entire length of the hair.
• It is possible to spot brownish lice eggs, which contain the growing larvae, close to the scalp.

product by combining a variety of ingredients such as Benzyl Alcohol.
Important:
As a rule, nits are not killed because the shells
impenetrable for the active ingredients. For those lice eggs that continue to hatch, lice are killed during the second treatment. As it usually takes nine days for these eggs to hatch, a second treatment should be carried out after ten days.
Obviously, it is also possible to treat the hair after five days and to complete this with the important final treatment after a further five days. The treatment is not harmful to the hair or scalp. Depending on the length of the hair, one bottle (100 ml) is sufficient for two intensive shampoos. Remove head lice in a few easy steps: 1. Wet hair with warm water and towel dry. 2. Depending on hair length, apply 1/4 to 1/2 of the shampoo evenly to the head and rub into the scalp thoroughly. Make sure that the shampoo covers all hair. 3. Allow the shampoo to soak in for 15-20 minutes and cover the shoulders with a towel. Afterwards, rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry. Unlike other products, Picksan Lice Stop shampoo does not need to remain on the hair overnight. 4. After washing the hair, comb with a nit comb. A metal comb is preferable. Comb in a downward direction, starting at the hair root. 5. Repeat the above treatment after ten days. Scientific reports Efficacy of Neem seed extract shampoo on head lice of naturally infected humans in Egypt Zoology department, Faculty of Science Cairo University, Giza, Egypt.
Sixty boys and girls aged between 4-15 with large amounts of head lice, were selected and subjected to the treatment with a shampoo based on Neem seed extract. Twenty to thirty milliliters of the shampoo was thoroughly applied to wet hair and thoroughly rubbed into the scalp.
The shampoo was rinsed after five, ten, fifteen and thirty minutes and the hair was combed. The head lice were collected and examined. The Neem seed extract shampoo proved to be highly effective against all stages of head lice. No obvious differences regarding the efficacy of the shampoo were observed between an exposure time of ten, fifteen or thirty minutes.
No side effects, such as skin irritation, burning sensations, or red spots on the scalp, forehead or neck, respectively were observed.
A new shampoo based on Neem is highly effective against head lice in vitro. Department of Community Health, School of Medicine, Federal University of Ceara, Fortaleza, Brazil. After three hours: 74% of head lice were killed with a product that contains permethrin (such as Roxazol). After three hours: 94% of head lice were killed with Picksan Lice Stop. Conclusion: Picksan Lice Stop is highly effective against head lice (in a test tube). Picksan Lice Stop worked more effectively against head lice than the product that contained permethrin.
