USE OF THE HOMEOPATHY FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE AMOUNT AND
QUALITY OF EMBRYOS IN BOVINE (BRAZIL).
LOURENÇO, F.1 ; KOYAMA, R.2; LOPES, E.2 1 - Veterinary doctor - Veterinary Medicine School of the Paraná University. UNIPAR. INTRODUCTION:
The use of homeopathic products in the cattle industry has increased considerably in the last years.
Among the several available products in the market, there are some destined to cows producing of
embryos specifically with the premise of increasing not only the amount of viable structures, but also the
quality of these embryos.
OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of the use of homoeopathic products in cows
donors of embryos to improve the amount and quality of the produced embryos.
MATERIAL AND METHODS:
A double blinded and randomized experiment was designed, using two (2) groups of nineteen (19) cows
of the Indian race Brangus, allocated to brachiaria (Brachiaria brizhanta) pastures. The animals were
allocated randomly to the two lots and the treatments were also chosen randomly and the lots named as
CONTROL and TREATED groups. The animals of the TREATED LOT received three (3) homeopathic
products: the CM&C FACTOR(*), the FERTIL FACTOR(*)and the STRESSES FACTOR(*), in the dosage
of 2 grams of each product per animal a day and mixed in the mineral salt that was administered "ad
libitum".
The synchronization protocol that was used to provoke the superovulação consisted of the insertion of
an intravaginal device saturated with 250 mg of medroxiprogesterona acetate and the application of 25
mg of progesterone base and 2 mg of estradiol benzoate on "Day 0", decreasing applications of FSH
beginning on "Day 5 " and finishing on "Day 8." On "Day 7" it was administered 150mcg of prostaglandin
F and 150 mcg in the afternoon. On “Day 8” the intravaginal device was removed in the morning, and all
the animals had enter in heat on the “Day 9. These animals were inseminated with previously selected
bulls' semen being accomplished 2 inseminations. The collections were accomplished seven days after
the heat. The data related to the collections were registered in specific reports and submitted to statistical
analysis.
A total of 33 embryo collections were accomplished in three phases, always seven days after the heat. In
the First Phase the collection was done in eight (8) cows, fifteen (15) in the Second Phase and ten (10) in
the Third Phase. The collected embryos classified as Degree I and II were frozen. The embryos of
Degree III were inoculated in cows of the farm (not for the embryos of the third collection) and the
degenerate embryos and not fertilized were discarded.
RESULTS:
The homoeopathic treatment began after the first collection (Phase I) and it was administered during the
second and third collections (Phases II and III).

Graph 1 - RECOVERED EMBRYOS
The total of collected embryos divided by the number of animals in each phase were 18.13 for the Phase I, of 20.87 for the Phase II and 20.10 for the Phase III (Graph 1), what represented a significant (p < 0.01) improvement of 15.5% and 11.0% in favor Graph 2 – VIABLE EMBRYOS
/ DONOR - AVERAGE
The total of collected embryos divided by the number of animals in each phase were 18.13 for the Phase I, of 20.87 for the Phase II and 20.10 for the Phase III (Graph 1), what represented a significant (p < 0.01) improvement of 15.5% and 11.0% in favor of the homoeopathic treatment. Graph 3 - DEGREE I EMBRYOS - AVERAGE
PHASE III
The number of embryos classified as Degree I by donor were 4.13 for the Phase I. of 5.13 for the Phase II and of 8.10 for the Phase III (Graph 3) what represents an improvement of 24.2% and of 50.1% in favor of the homoeopathic treatment (p<0.05). PHASE III
Graph 4 - DEGENERATED EMBRYOS
The numbers of degenerated embryos per donor were 9.75 at the Phase I, in the Phase II it was of 8.53 and 6.20 in the Phase III (Graph 4) what represents a significant (p < 0.01) decrease of 12.5% and 36.4% respectively for the time using PHASE III
Graph 5 - DEGREE III EMBRYOS
INNOCULATED (% OF POSITIVE GESTATION)
The collected embryos of degree II and III were inoculated during the First and Second Phases in cows of the breed Brangus and pregnancy diagnosis was accomplished through rectal examination that showed an index of pregnancy of 50.0% (9/18) and 81.8% (9/11) respectively during the first and second phase, what represents an increase of 63.6% (p < 0.05) after CONCLUSIONS:
The evaluation of the data demonstrated the effectiveness of the homeopathic treatment with the
products CM&C FACTOR , FERTIL FACTOR and STRESS FACTOR , for the improvement of the amount and quality of the embryos when using those products during the time of the collection of embryos and transfer period. .
